Bogle Center adds Conference Proceedings and Chapter videos to YouTube

Post on: August 9, 2021 by Rick Ferri

The Bogle Center has not only added all of the Bogleheads Conference proceedings to YouTube, but the Zoom video recordings produced by the Bogleheads forum chapters as well.

The Bogleheads local and virtual chapters have been recording their virtual Zoom meetings. Those meetings are published on YouTube, but are done so in way that keeps them from appearing in the Google search engine (“Unlisted”).

You could only find the video if you knew the link.* Although this is helpful for the meeting attendees, it does little with getting Jack Bogle’s investment philosophy out to the general population.

We were avoiding the YouTube search engine is due to advertising. In addition to the site owners’ desire to have no advertising on this site, there is a relationship to the John C. Bogle Center for Financial Literacy – an IRS qualified non-profit organization.

Accepting advertising (in the Bogleheads forum, or by or any site with a relation to the Bogle Center) runs afoul of IRS regulations and is not permitted (unrelated business). This is a big deal, as a non-profit organization will be disqualified by the IRS for violating these regulations.

A publicly visible YouTube video will have advertisements appear that are out of our control. If (insert financial advisory firm) wanted to advertise on the page, we could not stop it.

Until now.

The Bogle Center has recently received approval under the YouTube Nonprofit Program, which is intended for IRS 501(c)(3) compliance (nonprofit organization). We get the full benefit of the Google search engine with no ads.

The YouTube channel is managed by forum member VELO724x (Bogle Center board member Dr. Ricardo Guerra), the videographer who recorded the Bogleheads Conferences.

I’m working directly with Rich and have uploaded all of the Bogleheads Chapter Series videos to the channel. Rich has uploaded all of the Bogle Center’s Speaker Series videos, as well as all of his conference videos that are currently on Vimeo.

We’re working together to get John Bogle’s investment philosophy out to everyone world-wide. The YouTube channel is a step in the right direction.
